League Changes/Improvements

Registration:
We realize as a coach how much work goes into collecting waivers and cheques. We have taken as much of this responsibility away from you as possible. On the website a coach can now reserve their teams spot by simply clicking on the team coach’s button, entering your name, email, and team name and filling out the drop down menus for 1 player. Then simply paying a team deposit of $165.

Our league was full last season, so please reserve your teams spot ASAP!

Then the coach emails his players and directs them all to the league website to register themselves. They just click on the "Joining a team" button, enter your name, email and Team name and they register and pay themselves. The league will continually update the coach on who from your roster has registered and who has not.

Roster:

With our new web registration no team will be able to register without filling out the roster. This will eliminate many issues with teams not seeded properly.
The roster system has also been improved to ensure teams are not placed in the wrong division because of confusion with categories (novice, atom etc). Now the roster system has a rating that uses a year of birth scale and eliminates the divisional component. This coupled with a similar level of play scale makes it possible to just take the final roster scores and rank them from the lowest total number to the highest and then separate all registered teams into divisions.

Divisions will be initially set up with 4 teams. You will play the 3 teams in your league over the first 3 weeks, and then all scores will be used to reseed teams into divisions of 8. Each team will then play everyone once.

Schedule:

We have made most of our improvements from previous seasons with our scheduling. We listened to your concerns and have made the following improvements.
1. Limited May Long weekend games. We have had to add some games back into the long weekend to keep all games at Western Fair.
2. No 2 games the same day
3. No schedule changes
4. Complete schedule before the season starts.

There is further detail on our website in regards to the schedule improvements; but most importantly with our roster system capturing player data we can now take the allocated ice and build a standardized schedule with all teams listed as team numbers 1 thru 160. Team #1 will be the team with the lowest roster total and team #160 will have the highest total.

To implement this schedule we have to eliminate the ability to make scheduling changes; but feedback suggests that this is the lesser of two evils.

But; with the standardized schedule you will know your entire schedule long before the season begins. Also; as explained in more detail on the website, you can get a very good idea when you games will be by knowing your teams relative level of play, age, and gender and comparing to last seasons teams and enrolment. (Examples on the website)

The standardized schedule keeps your games much closer to the same time each week.

League Size Capped:

Many of these improvements could not be implemented unless we capped the size of the league. The league began 7 years ago with 28 teams and has grown every season significantly. 2007 we had 148 teams. 174 registered teams in 2008. We have capped the league at 180 teams this upcoming season and will not be making last minute schedule changes to accommodate last minute teams. The league will operate with as many teams as are registered on April 15th and everyone’s team will then be assigned to a team number on the standard schedule so everyone will have their entire schedule.

We have made the deposit for a team the amount one would pay for only one player to incent our coaches to register early. The more returning coaches we have the smoother our league will run and we want to ensure all of you have the opportunity to join again in 2010. We will continually update the coaches on your team’s registration; and if you are finding it difficult to get 10 players we always have individual registrants that we can add to your team.

So please register early with a deposit. Final rosters are not due till March 15th.

Thanks everyone; please forward any questions anytime
